It is argued that all occurrences of תשע in the HB fall in the semantic field "think/consider," akin to the Aramaic תשע. In Jer v 28 ותשע should be understood as "they thought (highly) of themselves" and in Ez xxvii 19 תושע refers to "thoughtfully (produced iron)," or "worked iron," in which case תושע is derived from תשע. In Cant v 14 תשע is the defectiva form of תושוע (root תשע), and thus unrelated to תשע.
